ABOUT INJURY REHABILITATION

SPORTS THERAPY
I am an Msc qualified Sports Therapist and a member of the SST (Society of Sports Therapy). Sports Therapy is an aspect of healthcare that focuses on the prevention of injury and rehabilitation back to optimum levels of functional, occupational and sport specific fitness requirements for all ages and abilities.
WHAT I CAN DO FOR YOU
I am able to assess, diagnose and treat all types of sporting injuries including acute, chronic and trauma based injuries, including contact sport such as football and rugby.

OTHER INJURIES
As well as sporting injuries, I assess and treat musculoskeletal injury acquired from lifestyle factors such as occupation (desk job, physical jobs) and hobbies (gardening, DIY).
WHAT CAN I TREAT?
-
Back, neck and shoulder pain/injury
-
Upper and lower limb pain/injury
-
Muscular strains and ligament sprains
-
Tendinopathies (Tendinitis)
-
Sciatica and neural pain
-
Rehabilitation after fracture/surgery
-
Joint pain and stiffness

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM BETH?
As well as treating general health as an acupuncturist, if you have an injury I can also offer assessment, diagnosis and treatment if deemed necessary.
Acupuncture can be all that is needed to aid injury recovery, such as shoulder tension, back pain, sciatica and aid with swelling etc., however injury rehabilitation techniques can aid acupuncture treatment by speeding up the healing process and aid with movement therapy.
Methods of assessment and treatment include:
-
Postural analysis
-
Gait and functional analysis
-
Assessment of limbs associated with pain/injury
-
Assessment of the spine
-
Deep tissue massage
-
Joint mobilisation
-
Exercise based rehabilitation
-
Taping
Lifestyle advice and an easy to follow home-based exercise programme is a key aspect to your recovery to compliment the treatments offered. It is possible for some lifestyle factors to interfere with your recovery, therefore this will be discussed post treatment.
YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED
You Ask - I Answer
DO YOU OFFER JUST INJURY REHABILITATION SESSIONS?
My expertise is a combined approach, which I have found to be very effective, however if acupuncture isn't for you, we can certainly arrange a Sports Therapy appointment.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR ME TO RECOVER?
Recovery time is dependant on the severity, type of injury, age, general health and adherence to your rehabilitation programme. For some, relieving tight musculature for injury prevention could be of benefit for those continuing in sport and chosen lifestyle factors contributing to pain/injury.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Effective assessment is key for diagnosis and appropriate treatment; assessment of joints above or below the injury are necessary to treat contributing factors to injury. For example, An injury to the ankle can be a potential result of pelvic/ lower back instability, therefore assessment of the spine would be necessary. It's advised to wear loose clothing or shorts, vest or sports bra to allow ease of assessment and treatment.
